DOH Confirms Travel-Related Dengue Virus
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed one travel-related dengue virus case on Oʻahu.
This is the second travel-related dengue virus case reported in Hawaii this year. The first case was reported on Maui in February.
Dengue virus is a mosquito-borne illness that can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, dengue virus can lead to hemorrhagic fever and shock syndrome, which can be fatal.
There is no specific treatment for dengue virus, but supportive care can help to relieve symptoms and prevent complications.
DOH is urging residents to take steps to prevent mosquito bites, including wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent, and eliminating standing water around homes.
